Born in 1981 in New Zealand, Kris Sowersby graduated in 2003 from the Wanganui School of Design. In 2005 he founded Klim Type Foundry in Wellington, which has become one of the most respected independent foundries in the world.

Vision

Sowersby revisits the history of typography with a contemporary and well-researched eye. He regularly explains his approach in detailed essays published on his foundry's website.

Works

His work includes National, Tiempos, Founders Grotesk, Calibre, Domaine, Söhne and Untitled Sans, as well as Financier for the Financial Times and custom typefaces for National Geographic and PayPal.

Legacy

He put New Zealand on the map of world typography, and his typefaces now set the identities of many brands, media and technology companies.
