Born in 1947 in Stadthagen, Germany, Erik Spiekermann founded the MetaDesign agency in Berlin in 1979, then FontShop in 1989 with Joan Spiekermann, and later the Edenspiekermann agency. He still practices letterpress printing in his Berlin workshop today.

Vision
Spiekermann champions functional typography that must above all serve information and the reader. He is also a great educator, author of the book Stop Stealing Sheep & Find Out How Type Works.
Works
His work includes FF Meta, ITC Officina, DB Type for Deutsche Bahn, the signage of Berlin's public transport, as well as Fira, created for Mozilla.
Legacy
He deeply shaped late 20th-century typography, making FontShop and the FontFont collection one of the great adventures of independent digital typography.
