Born in France in 1964, Jean François Porchez was type director at the Dragon Rouge agency, before founding his own foundry, Typofonderie, in 1994. He teaches type design at ENSAD in Paris and has served as vice-president of ATypI, the Association Typographique Internationale.

Vision

Porchez champions contemporary French typography, rooted in history yet adapted to today's uses in the press, signage and branding.

Works

His work includes Le Monde, created in 1994 for the daily newspaper, Parisine for the RATP's signage, Sabon Next for Linotype, as well as custom typefaces for Peugeot and France Télécom.

Legacy

Winner of the Charles Peignot Award in 1998, he is one of the major figures of contemporary French typography. He has also helped make it better known with his book Lettres françaises.
