In 2025, OpenAI replaced the various typefaces used across its products with a single custom family, to give a consistent voice to a brand that became global in a very short time.

The typefaces
OpenAI Sans was unveiled in February 2025 as part of a brand refresh. It was designed by the Berlin foundry Dinamo with OpenAI's in-house design team. The foundry announced extensions to new scripts and a mono version. The "blossom" symbol was redrawn at the same time, and the brand name gained visibility.
The system
The typeface is used for the logotype, the website and the products. It replaces several families used until then, unifying the experience between communication and interfaces. The specialist press described the refresh as more human and warmer.
Why it works
For a technology brand, the challenge is to combine precision and approachability. A geometric sans with softer details meets this dual need. Owning its typeface also lets the brand extend it to every language and context, from code to campaigns.
What a brand can learn from it
Consolidating several typefaces into one family instantly clarifies a brand. Working with an independent foundry brings a distinctive voice. Planning international scripts and a mono version from the start avoids compromises later.
