Rencontres internationales de Lure

Location: Lurs, in Provence.

Date: Since 1952.

A week of talks and discussions on typography and graphic design, held every summer in a Provençal village. The Rencontres were founded by Maximilien Vox, creator of the typographic classification that bears his name.

It is the historic gathering of French typography, known for its intimate atmosphere and the quality of its exchanges.

ATypI

Location: A different city every year.

Date: The association was founded in 1957 by Charles Peignot.

The annual conference of the Association Typographique Internationale, bringing together type designers, foundries, researchers and teachers from around the world.

It is the profession's main international gathering. Many of its talks are available online.

TypeCon

Location: United States, in a different city every year.

Date: Since the late 1990s.

The annual conference of the Society of Typographic Aficionados, combining talks, workshops and meetings around typography.

It is the major typography event in North America, known for its community spirit.

Typographics

Location: New York, at the Cooper Union.

Date: Since 2015.

A festival devoted to typography, with talks, workshops and exhibitions.

Every year it brings together the major figures of contemporary typography, and its talks are often posted online.

TYPO Berlin

Location: Berlin.

Date: From 1996 to 2019.

An international design conference organised by FontShop, which for more than twenty years welcomed the biggest names in graphic design and typography.

Even though the conference no longer exists, its many filmed talks remain a goldmine for understanding contemporary typography.

Robothon

Location: The Hague, the Netherlands, at the Royal Academy of Art.

Date: Held roughly every three years.

A conference devoted to type design tools, programming and the automation of type design.

It is the meeting place for type designers who develop their own tools, notably around RoboFont and the UFO format.
